Before you begin
Ask your media provider for the public, unbranded MLS link. Test it in a private browser window, then add it through the media or virtual-tour area of your HAR/MLS listing. Menu names can change, so use the workflow below as a guide and follow the current labels in your account.
Professional photos may earn the first click, but a 3D tour or listing video can help buyers understand more before they schedule a showing. Houston-area Realtors can attach virtual media to their listings so buyers have a clear path from the photo gallery to a more complete property experience.
The most common problems are not complicated technical failures. They are usually the wrong link, a branded tour submitted where an unbranded version is required, or a URL that is private and cannot be opened by the public.
What You Need From Your Photographer
- An unbranded MLS tour link: no agent name, phone number, brokerage promotion, or media-company advertising.
- A branded marketing link: optional, for social media, email, and other places where agent branding is appropriate.
- A public URL: the viewer should not need a password or customer login.
- A clear label: know whether the link opens a Matterport tour, 360 tour, property website, or video.
Picture This Property provides shareable listing-media links with completed orders. If you are uncertain which version belongs in MLS, ask before publishing it.
Step-by-Step: Add a 3D Tour or Video to an HAR Listing
- Open the listing in your HAR/MLS account. Choose the option used to edit or maintain the existing listing.
- Find the media or virtual-tour section. Depending on the current interface, this may be labeled Media, Virtual Tours, 3D Tours, Videos, or a similar term.
- Select the appropriate tour field. Use an unbranded field for MLS distribution. Do not assume the first link in your delivery is automatically the MLS version.
- Paste the complete URL. Include the full address beginning with
https://. Avoid pasting embed code unless the form specifically requests it. - Save the listing changes. Watch for a confirmation message or validation warning.
- Open the public listing and test the media. Confirm the tour button appears, the correct property opens, and the link works on both desktop and mobile.
Use an Unbranded Link for MLS
The current HAR MLS Rules govern what can appear in MLS media. A safe working rule is to keep MLS-facing tour pages focused on the property rather than the agent, brokerage, photographer, lender, or another business.
Your branded property website can still be valuable in social posts, email campaigns, listing presentations, and direct marketing. The important step is keeping the branded and unbranded URLs clearly labeled so they are not accidentally swapped.
How to Test the Link Before Publishing
- Open a private or incognito browser window.
- Paste the tour URL without logging in to the media portal.
- Confirm it opens the correct address.
- Check that no prohibited branding appears on the MLS version.
- Play the video or move through the 3D tour.
- Repeat the test on a phone.
If the link only works while you are signed in, buyers and MLS systems may not be able to view it.
Common Problems and How to Fix Them
The tour button does not appear
Confirm that the listing changes were saved and that the URL was entered in a supported media field. Some updates take time to display. If the link still does not appear, consult current HAR support because account permissions and interface labels can differ.
The link opens the wrong property
Remove it immediately and obtain the correct property-specific URL. Similar links can be easy to confuse when several listings are delivered close together.
The tour contains branding
Replace it with the unbranded MLS version supplied by your media company. Do not try to edit the URL manually unless your provider has documented that process.
The media appears on HAR but not another portal
Third-party websites decide how they display syndicated MLS fields. A tour appearing on HAR does not guarantee identical placement on every consumer portal. Check important destinations separately and use the branded property site in your direct marketing.
Which Link Should You Add?
| Media | Best use | Link to request |
|---|---|---|
| Matterport 3D tour | Self-guided room-by-room exploration | Public unbranded tour URL |
| 360 virtual tour | Simple panoramic navigation and lead engagement | Public unbranded tour URL |
| Listing video | Guided visual story of the home | Public unbranded video or tour URL accepted by the field |
| Property website | Complete campaign with photos, floor plans, and links | Unbranded MLS version; branded version for direct marketing |
Make Virtual Media Part of the Listing Workflow
Add the media-link check to your launch checklist: upload photos, review descriptions, add the floor plan, paste the correct virtual-tour link, and test the public listing. This small process prevents broken links and makes sure the media you ordered is actually helping the listing.
